  The following page contains information shared among police departments and PSAPs interested in mobile data.

Initial focus is on migration from CDPD to higher speed services from various cellular carriers (initially Verizon Wireless and AT&T Wireless, but others as they become available to public safety users). Input for this page is from larger departments that are members of the QED Users Group and include Cambridge, Newton, Arlington, Burlington, Medford, Somerville, Quincy, Lynn, Attleboro, Belmont, Malden, Stoneham, and others.

Sept 29, 2004: Verizon has just rolled out its fast (300K compared to 1X at 50K) EVDO service in 10 more cities with the greater Boston area supposedly to follow before year's end. Also a new Sierra Wireless EVDO card (580) is available that falls back to 1X when EVDO service is not available. Verizon to host EVDO technical forums in Quincy and Framingham in late Sept/early Oct. Track the spread of EVDO and the competing highspeed GSM data service (called UTMS) at http://evdo-coverage.com. No public safety pricing yet available from Verizon on EVDO.
